Boating, Water-skiing and Sailing the waters of Chincoteague are favorite vacation activities the whole family can enjoy. The town has 4 public boat ramps which can be accessed with a permit issued at the Town Office, the Police Station or from the Harbormaster for a small fee.
There are several places on the Island where boats can be rented by the hour or day offering wonderful opportunities to explore Chincoteague and Assateague Island’s wetlands and waterways or spend the day fishing. Another fun activity is kayaking through the marshes; several guided tours are available for groups, couples or the adventurous individual.
Some of the best fishing in the Mid-Atlantic Region is found in this area. Several local charter boat operators and guides offer various types of inshore fishing, deep sea fishing, clamming, crabbing, and bow fishing. Other guides offer kayaking, nature tours, pony swim tours, eco-tours and other adventures.
Crabbing is another favorite family activity on Chincoteague Island. The easiest accessible spots to crab are the ramps and docks at Queen Sound, the town dock near the drawbridge, Memorial Park and along the bridges onto Assateague Island.
