Chincoteague Island is becoming well known as a community of artists and for promoting educational and cultural activities. The Island is rich with inspirational scenes and subjects; old fishing boats, harbors, docks, salt marshes, migrating birds and awesome sunsets are captured in oil and watercolor by resident artists.

Fine Arts
The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance is an organization that promotes arts and culture and sponsors many events throughout the year. The Plein Air Paint Out on September 12-13 was an event with more than 40 artists painting on location at Chincoteague and Assateague Islands; this included an exhibit and sale of their works.

Concerts
The CCA also sponsors acoustic music concerts in the spring and fall featuring outstanding professional musicians performing Celtic, folk, blues and other acoustic styles. There is also a series of free concerts performed in Robert Reed Park along the Waterfront.

Mark your calendar for the 2nd Saturday Art Stroll. This event in its 5th season has continued to grow in popularity among residents and visitors. Visit the shops, galleries and antique stores and enjoy arts and craft demonstrations, live music and wine tastings from 6 pm to 10 pm April through October and 4 pm to 8 pm in November and December.

Movies and Theater
Chincoteague Island Films shows movies on the first Thursday of each month at 8 pm. The fall series features world class cinema and foreign films not found in the chain store theaters. The fall film series runs from September through December. Check back for the Spring Film Festival, last May and June seven Robert Wise films were presented.

The Island Roxy Theater, a landmark built in 1945 offers the most recent movies each week suitable for family entertainment. The large single screen theater has 352 seats, beautifully preserved in the art deco style.
