Chincoteague Island is becoming well known as a community of artists and for promoting educational and cultural activities. The Island is rich with inspirational scenes and subjects; old fishing boats, harbors, docks, salt marshes, migrating birds and awesome sunsets are captured in oil and watercolor by resident artists.
The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance is an organization that promotes arts and culture and sponsors many events throughout the year. The Plein Air Paint Out on September 12-13 was an event with more than 40 artists painting on location at Chincoteague and Assateague Islands; this included an exhibit and sale of their works.
The CCA also sponsors acoustic music concerts in the spring and fall featuring outstanding professional musicians performing Celtic, folk, blues and other acoustic styles. There is also a series of free concerts performed in Robert Reed Park along the Waterfront.
Mark your calendar for the 2nd Saturday Art Stroll. This event in its 5th season has continued to grow in popularity among residents and visitors.
