Chincoteague Spring
Today was an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous Spring day on Chincoteague Island. Blooming all over Chincoteague are Bradford Pears, Forsytheias, Magnolias all showered by buckets full of sunshine the color of daffodils. Did I say daffodils? Well I guess like everyone else on the island I am caught up in the buzz about the Daffodil Festival that is happening this weekend April 4th and 5th at the Chincoteague Center at 6155 Community Drive right in the heart of Chincoteague Island.
The Daffodil Festival is the first major event of 2009 on Chincoteague and 'by golly' it's a real good one. You see, the Daffodil Festival is actually several events all wrappred up in one. It encompasses the Eastern Shore of Virginia's Flower, Home and Garden Show plus the 8th annual Spring Craft Show all at the same time in the same space. Fun, Food, Flowers by Maplewood Gardens, Garden Art,Fine Arts and Crafts, Unique Products for Home and Garden and cool stuff for the kids.
The food will be provided by a Chincoteague favorite, Mr. Baldy's. Bob and his friendly crew will be serving up a fabulous breakfast and lunch, so you want to come hungry. For dessert you can count on the hands-down best homemade ice cream ...peroiod, supplied by the Island Creamery. While relaxing with these delicious offerings in hand and mouth, you can enjoy the sounds of some of the best local musicians like Bill Chrisman, Chip Blackwell, Owen Hooks and a special appearance by local favorite Johnny Mo. Wow!
For the kids, there will be pony rides, face painting by Carole Crockett and sand art...in other words...Fun!
To get to the Chincoteague Center, turn left at the bridge on to Main St. Turn right on Maddox Blvd. and left at the light which is Deep Hole Road. The Chincoteague Center will be on the left or you can just look for the hustle and bustle of enthusiastic shoppers hurrying to scoop up
bargains.
